Frequently Asked Questions About the SAT

How much time should I spend on test preparation?

We generally recommend about 10-15 hours as the most effective amount of time to devote to test prep. Longer time periods tend to show diminishing returns, and remember that test scores are just one part of your application. Save some time for other activities, like extracurriculars and special class projects, so that you have a balanced application.

In addition to familiarizing you with the tests, our site is designed to teach you valuable skills like critical reading, advanced vocabulary, algebra, and geometry. So if you want to spend some extra time on the website improving your academic skills in these areas, that's ok too. The vocabulary builder is particularly valuable for longer-term study.
