Frequently Asked Questions About the GRE

What does the GRE test?

The GRE contains several different types of multiple-choice questions that cover three main domains of knowledge: verbal, math, and logic.

The math portion tests 8th grade math (believe it or not). The verbal portion tests vocabulary and reading at the college level. The analytical portion simply tests your ability to think carefully and logically.

That's it. The test is designed to measure reasoning ability, not accumulated knowledge. It's meant to measure basic skills that you most likely accumulated over the course of your college degree.
