The critical reading (formerly known as the verbal) portion of the SAT contains two main types of questions: Sentence Completion questions and Reading Comprehension questions.

Two sections are 25 minutes long; the third is 20 minutes. The questions in each of the categories tend to get harder as the section progresses. You are tested on the breadth and precision of your vocabulary and your ability to discern the relationships between words, parts of a sentence, and parts of a paragraph.
